Thermal paper is also known as thermal fax paper, thermal recording paper, thermal copy paper, in Taiwan is known as thermal carbon paper. It is a kind of processing paper, the manufacturing principle is to coat a layer of "thermal paint" (thermal discoloration layer) on high-quality base paper. This heat-sensitive coating mainly contains two heat-sensitive components, colorless dye and color developer. When the thermal paper is placed in a certain high temperature environment, usually above 70 ° C, the colorless dye and the color developer will react chemically, thereby producing color on the paper and achieving the printing effect.
The main characteristics of thermal paper include rapid color rendering, fast printing speed, no need for ink cartridges or ribbons, and fine and high quality printed patterns. However, the writing on thermal paper is usually unstable, and is easily affected by environmental factors such as sunlight and heat to fade or disappear, so it is not suitable for long-term preservation. Nevertheless, some high-quality thermal paper has been able to preserve for a long time, even up to 30 years or more.
Thermal paper has a wide range of applications in many fields, including the commercial field (such as supermarkets, restaurants, cashier printers in ticket offices), the medical field (such as doctors' prescriptions, laboratory tests, medical records, etc.), the logistics field (such as printing express bills, mailing labels, item identification, etc.) and the industrial manufacturing field. In these areas, thermal paper provides a convenient and fast printing solution for all walks of life.
